ITV signs deal to create 'I'm a Celebrity' and 'Countdown' video games

LONDON - ITV Studios has signed a deal with video game developer Mindscape to create Nintendo games based around 'I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!' and 'Countdown' TV shows.

The games will be launched on the Nintendo DS and the Wii in November. The deal follows ITV’s announcement that it has signed a licensing deal to create a series of ' including a Monopoly game and a Top Trumps set.

ITV was unable to give many details away, but it confirmed the 'I'm a Celeb' game would contain a version of the show's famed 'Bushtucker Trial'.

The aim of the game is to become the King of the Jungle. It will consist of 24 rounds and seven types of challenge. The Wii balance board will be used for some of the tasks.

Aysha Kidwai, director, international merchandising and licensing at ITV Studios Global Entertainment, said: "'Countdown' and 'I'm a Celeb' are two of television's most watched and loved entertainment game-shows, they are the perfect fit for these new and exciting family games on Nintendo Wii and DS.

"The extensions are representative of our strategy for bringing ITV Studios biggest shows to life through high-quality and compelling consumer products."

While 'Countdown' is a mainstay of the Channel 4 schedule it is produced by ITV.

ITV has set out to utilise its properties as an additional revenue stream. Earlier this year it announced plans to create a .

In addition to merchandising it is also looking to link up with promotional partners to join Warburtons and title sponsor Harveys for marketing activity around next year's 50th anniversary of 'Coronation Street'.
