While other social networks deal with the problem of monetising their sites, Hasselhoff has a higher purpose with the launch of . "Where it will lead, I don't know but the world would be a better place if everyone talked a little more to each other...," the star writes on his homepage.
Hasselhoff officially unveiled the site today, saying that he is leaving MySpace at the same time. According to reports, Hasselhoff hopes that HoffSpace will discourage people from setting up fake social networking profiles in his name, and in the names of his children.
Unfortunately, he does not seem to have secured rights to the domain name Hoffspace.com, which appears to be dedicated to a family of Hoffs.
At the time of writing, almost 13,000 people had joined the network, where users can upload photos, create a profile and contact other members -- much in the way of any other social network. There are also groups to join for fans of Hasselhoff's hair, his dog, and for fans from different countries.
Hasselhoff promises users access to videos and photos that no one else will get to see.
After being a huge television star in the 1980s series 'Knightrider' and 'Baywatch', Hasselhoff's star waned. However, he has managed to revive his fortunes by building a career around his kitsch image and willingness to poke fun at himself.
He appeared in the West End revival of the musical 'Chicago' in 2006 and also made a cameo appearance as himself in 'The Spongebob Squarepants Movie', and is currently a guest judge on reality TV show 'America's Got Talent'.
