New Knight Rider series to screen on Fiver

LONDON - Five has the rights to the updated version of 'Knight Rider', and will screen 18 episodes of the drama as part of its autumn schedule on digital channel Fiver.

'Knight Rider' was originally an international hit in the 1980s for David Hasselhoff, playing Michael Knight, and his talking car, Kitt. It was recreated last year for American television after a TV movie proved a success.

Hasselhoff does appear in a cameo role in the new series but the action follows Michael Knight's estranged son, Mike Traceur. The car, Kitt, is voiced by Val Kilmer.

It has already screened in the UK on subscription-only Sci-Fi Channel, having appeared in the US on NBC last year. It was not picked up for another season.

Other US television shows to appear in Fiver's autumn line-up include a sitcom version of the film '10 Things I Hate About You', which was based on Shakespeare's 'Taming of the Shrew'.

The sitcom follows two sisters -- one a feminist, the other a social butterfly -- as they start a new high school.
