The AOP judges commended Gazettelive for its and said: "[It] is a cut above the other community sites -- a great example of how to make local news real, with relevant interactivity."
was another big winner on the night, taking the prize for Design and Usability, as well as Use of Video. Pete Picton, editor of thesun.co.uk, attributed the video win to his assistant editor Marc Webber, who he said played an instrumental role in the development of video on the site.
Thesun.co.uk's rival, Telegraph.co.uk, took the award for Best Online Publisher in the consumer division, beating CNET Networks UK, Emap Performance, Guardian News & Media and Gazette Media Company.
Telegraph.co.uk has been launching new parts to its site throughout the year, including the blogging community dubbed "My Telegraph" and its environmental site The Earth Channel.
Further winners included Channel 4oD online for Best Launch 2007; Silicon.com for Editorial Team - Business; Ft.com for Editorial Team - Consumer; and Condenast.com for Online Advertising Sales Team.
There were three wins for Guardian Unlimited. They were: guardian.co.uk/islamophonic for Podcast; guardian.co.uk/amisonblair for Digital Creativity; and a third win for for Innovation. Thehansofoundation.org won for Cross-Media Project; xboxfhm.com for Commercial Partnership; zdnet.co.uk for Business Website; and reedbusiness.co.uk for Best Online Publisher in the business division.
