French version of LinkedIn goes live

LONDON - Professional networking site LinkedIn is expanding its European horizons with the launch of its French language platform, after launching a Spanish version in July.

LinkedIn expects to double the number of French professionals currently using the website to 1.2m members, or 8% of France's working population.

Reid Hoffman, LinkedIn founder, said: "Far from being a language on its way out, French is the ninth most spoken language in the world.

"It's also the only language besides English to be spoken on all five continents. Its use in the business community should not be neglected."

Some of France's largest companies are already well represented on LinkedIn, including France Telecom and Alcatel-Lucent. The website also hosts more than 20,000 alumni of Grandes Ecole Polytechnique.
