LinkedIn marks one year in the UK

LONDON - Professional social networking site LinkedIn is celebrating a year in the UK, recently securing $22.7m (£15.2m) in funding from venture capitalists Goldman Sachs, McGraw Hill and SAP.

In June the company was valued at $1bn globally, marking the first time an internet company has reached that mark since 2000.

The last half of 2008 saw a substantial increase in global membership sign up, growing from 23m to 32m.

Interest from members in the financial sector grew 50% over the past six months. LinkedIn is currently growing at a rate of half a million new members a week.

Most recently the company announced it was stepping up European development with the launch of its French language platform, after the launch of its Spanish version in July.
