'The Cell' has already been broadcast in the UK on the O2 mobile network, and online on the Sony website .
The drama, which takes the form of two 20-minute episodes, follows the story of a man who finds himself locked in a lawless prison with no idea of how he got there or why he is imprisoned. His only source of information is a mobile phone and a mysterious voice on the other end.
Fox International Channels, part of News Corp, will show the programme on its global network of websites in October via a dedicated .
It will be promoted online across various properties owned by Fox, and the company is working on developing a game in Argentina to tie in with the show. It is also hunting for global, regional or national sponsors.
Pablo Silva, vice-president of online publishing at FIC, said: "This is a very exciting project for us and something we intend to do more and more. We already have our eyes on a number of other properties, similar shows that we can launch in the same way."
Endemol said that 'The Cell' was the first time it had applied television production values to a made-for-mobile series.
