Five vie for $300m Intel media business

NEW YORK - Intel has invited five agencies to pitch for its $300m (£151m) global media buying and planning duties, in addition to incumbent Universal McCann.

The four other agencies invited to pitch are Starcom, OMD, MEC and ZenithOptimedia.

When the review began in December reports suggested that Intel was unhappy with two-year incumbent Universal McCann's performance.

Intel is planning also to hold a pitch for the creative account, held by McCann Erickson, after the media review is finished.

Intel's entire marketing business has been run by Interpublic agencies since the group won the $300m account in March 2005.

It had previously been with holding company Havas; the media account was with Media Planning Group and the creative account with Euro RSCG.
