OMD scoops Intel's global $300m media account

LONDON - Intel has awarded its $300m (£149m) global media account to Omnicom's OMD, following a competitive pitch.

OMD beat the incumbent, Interpublic's Universal McCann, which had handled the business since March 2005. Publicis Groupe's Starcom was also involved in the final three-way shoot out.

The account will be handled out of OMD's Chicago office.

Nancy Bhagat, Intel's vice-president of sales and marketing, said: "Each of the finalists impressed us, but OMD gave us a stronger sense of possessing world-class media-industry leadership and state-of-the-art business intelligence and analytics."

The review, which began in December with final presentations two weeks ago, also included WPP Group's Mediaedge:cia and Publicis' ZenithOptimedia at an earlier stage. The review process was overseen by .

It did not include creative duties, which are handled by Interpublic's McCann Erickson.
