Five executives axed as Global Radio restructures

LONDON - The axe has fallen on five top executives at Global Radio, owner of LBC, Heart and Galaxy, in a major management shakeout aimed at streamlining decision-making at the group.

Ousted in the reshuffle were Heart’s managing director Barnaby Dawe, Heart’s programme director Francis Currie and Heart’s marketing director Tina Finch; LBC managing director David Lloyd; and Galaxy managing director Martyn Healy.

As part of the restructure, which Global claims will enable faster, more efficient communication between radio stations and senior management, Don Thomson, formerly commercial director, has been appointed chief operating officer, and Mark Evans, formerly finance director, has been appointed chief financial officer. They will report to Richard Park, executive director at Global Radio.

Park moved to the network in July from Emap’s Magic, where he was highly regarded as consultant programme director.

Global refused to comment on the restructure, but, in a terse statement announcing the reshuffles, chief executive Ashley Tabor said: “These changes will enable us to build a new culture that values creativity, enthusiasm and innovation, while rewarding success and enabling fast-moving decision making.”

These are the first changes announced at Global Radio by new owner Charles Allen, who chairs the private investment company that bought the broadcaster from Chrysalis three months ago for £170m.
