However, within that GCap's Capital 95.8 has suffered a massive blow by falling to fourth place in London behind Emap's Kiss in share while DJ Johnny Vaughan has lost the number one commercial breakfast slot, which he regained last quarter, to Global Radio's Jamie and Harriet on Heart.
Capital's market share also fell, from 5% to just 4.1% year-on-year.
Emap's Magic has retained the number one slot in London for the second quarter in a row but dropped slightly in share since last year, from 6.5% to 6.2% to come level with Heart's share.
Virgin Radio achieved its highest results in three years, up 8.4% on the year and 3.5% on the quarter, while TalkSport recorded 2.37m listeners, up from 2.2m last year, though its share fell 2% on the last quarter.
There was bad news for fellow national commercial station, GCap's Classic FM, which lost 330,000 listeners in three months, and 130,000 in the last year, also losing audience share, falling 0.2% to 4%.
The BBC had mixed results, falling in share to 54.3% - down slightly on the year and quarter - and with a small fall in share for Radio 2 and for Radio 4 in the quarter.
Radio 3, however, had its worst Rajar results on record, despite a revised schedule, pilling in just 1.1% share and 1.78m listeners per week, down from 1.83m on the year and 1.9m on the quarter.
Radio 1 has gained 200,000 listeners year-on-year to reach 10.87m a week, and breakfast show host Chris Moyles has drawn the same increase in listeners, rising to 7.26m in the last three months - up almost 500,000 year-on-year.
