Facebook becomes a major source of traffic for Capital One

According to research by Experian/Hitwise, Capital One has picked up a ‘significant' amount of traffic from social networks sites, especially .

It is now Capital One's second biggest source of traffic, and even overtook Google UK for one month earlier this year.

Last year Capital One shifted a significant proportion of its marketing budget out of direct mail and into online media. One of the sites Capital One has been investing with is Facebook.

According to Experian/Hitwise, social networks now receive more UK Internet traffic than any other category of websites. They have also become the second biggest source of traffic for other sites after search engines. However, the Experian/Hitwise warns that social networks send a larger share of their traffic to other content-driven sites such news sites rather than commercial sites such as online retailers, travel and finance sites.
