Capital One is the official community partner for the centre, which aims to deliver new ice skating initiatives to more than 12,000 local youngsters.

Nottingham's ice skating legends Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean helped to launch the new programme at the NIC today on the newly named Capital One Ice Rink.

Over the next 12 months, the Capital One Ice Rink will host 11 skating experiences, including a schools' skating programme, which will provide opportunities for pupils in disadvantaged areas, sessions for disabled children and coaching for children who have not had the opportunity to ice skate before.

Capital One will also donate 1,000 free ice skating passes to local schools, charities and community groups throughout the year.

Capital One marketing manager Justin Basini said: ‘It is about a community sponsorship. With all the interest in ice dancing and so on, it feels fresh and contemporary.'

Capital One will end its six-year partnership with Nottingham Forest at the end of the current Championship season.
