Teaming up with event production company Theme Traders, the charity positioned a branded portaloo within the central London station to promote the fact that one in three, or 2.3 billion people around the world don’t have access to a toilet.
WaterAid enslisted comedian Patrick Monahan for the stunt. He was on hand throughout the day to tell jokes and encourage commuters to stop by the portaloo stage to share their own humorous anecdotes.
At 110cm squared in size the mobile building resembled a typical portaloo on its exterior, however inside it was complete with bricks, a real toilet, red curtain and the WaterAid logo. A red carpet was laid out in front of the portaloo, offering participants a taste of the celebrity experience.
Monahan said: "I’ve gigged in some unusual venues in my time, but I can honestly say this was the most surreal."
Members of the public could follow the action on Twitter via the #ItsNoJoke hashtag.
