At the Edinburgh International TV Festival, Simon Nelson, BBC Vision controller of portfolio and multimedia, said that from 13 September, viewers will be able to watch older episodes in a series, after it has first been broadcast, for the duration of the entire series. This means that people who join a series late in its broadcast schedule can go back and watch the whole series.
Nelson added that series stacking will extend across all BBC TV channels eventually.
Highlights of the BBC's autumn schedule that users will be able to "series stack" include new BBC One dramas Merlin, Tess Of The D'Urbervilles, Little Dorrit and Survivors; The History Of Climate Change and Bruce Parry's Amazon on BBC Two; BBC Three comedy première Clone and other new and returning factual series; and Walking With Beeching and The Story Of Maths from BBC Four.
Nelson said: "You'll now be able to join a series half way through following a friend's recommendation and catch up on all the previous episodes - or watch them all in one go over a weekend."
