Directgov rolls out mobile video service

LONDON - Directgov, the Government's flagship digital service, is trialling mobile video to deliver campaign messages.

This will allow users to access videos from a range of campaigns via a shortcode text.

While Directgov has already been using mobile services for some time, such as travel alerts, train information and local search of NHS services, this is the first time it has used video.

The initial videos available to view are road safety campaign, Think!, the DVLA's car tax evasion campaign and from HM Treasury, ‘Budget Day, behind the scenes'.

"The Directgov video trial will evaluate a mobile video platform for Government campaigns. We are hoping to expand our entire mobile offering as time goes by, providing a new channel for people, especially the young, to access services and information from across Government," said David Dilley, director of communications at Directgov.

Dilley also said that Directgov will be looking at the viral potential of mobile video for future campaign creatives.

To access the service, users text VIDEO to 64746, then receive a WAP push message linking them to the video site.
