Directgov, a rebranded and revamped version of UK Online, provides access to public services online. It will become part of COI in April, marking the first time COI has been responsible for delivering a service directly to the public.
Jim Murphy, the Cabinet Office minister with responsibility for Directgov, said: "COI provides an ideal location for Directgov and will ensure there is a wider pool of professional skills and expertise to draw on to support the programme. I'm confident this will ensure the service goes from strength to strength."
Alan Bishop, COI's chief executive, added: "This benefits everyone involved and, most importantly, it makes sense for the public. COI's role at the heart of government communications and at the forefront of achieving efficiencies through the sharing of specialist services are a perfect fit with Directgov's vision to be a definitive guide to public services online."
Separately, the Media Monitoring Unit, a service which tracks and summarises domestic and international news coverage, will also join COI from the Cabinet Office.
