This is according to a panel of industry experts speaking at International Confex, which took place this week (12-13 March) at Olympia London.
Fay Sharpe, founder of agency Zibrant, said in the last year there has been a huge influx of unique and unusual venues available to use for events, but they can be challenging to work with from the procurement side.
"These venues need to look at how they can improve the way they work with corporate clients," she said. "There are a lot of procurement questions to answer and it is about getting efficiencies in that process."
Richard Beggs, managing director at caterers Moving Venue, said some of these challenges can be overcome if suppliers and clients carry out a thorough risk assessment.
"Unique venues are a great attraction, but they do have different terms compared to other venues when it comes to contracting, payments and terms of reference," he said. "It would be wonderful to have some kind of industry standardisation for booking venues and hotels. It would be a much more user-friendly approach."
Sharpe and Beggs were speaking at a session examining what's next for event organisers in the coming year.
