In pictures: Confex 2014 day one

Following the first day of this year's International Confex (12 March), taking place at exhibition venue Olympia London, Event takes a look at the highlights, including content from the speaker sessions.

Representatives from the UK event industry were able to visit 300 exhibitors and attend speaker sessions, which included a keynote speech from Karren Brady, vice-chairman of West Ham United Football Club. More than 200 delegates attended the session, which featured a question-and-answer format that allowed audience members to ask Brady about her career and her experience in events.

Other lively speaker sessions included a Question Time-style debate surrounding technology and hybrid events. The panel consisted of John Martinez of Shocklogic; Dan Walker from Ashfield Meetings and Events; William Thomson of Gallus Events; Lex Butler from agency Zibrant; and Toby Lewis of Live Group.

Donna Bushell, exhibition director for International Confex, said: "We are delighted with day one of the show, it was heaving all day and the educational programme was packed.

"We said we wanted to give the show back to the industry and the industry has responded in style and in its thousands. We can’t thank everyone enough for this amazing show of support."
