The survey, conducted by Fletcher Advisory for BT Openworld, shows that one in three broadband users questioned said that internet usage was replacing TV viewing time. Nearly two thirds, 61%, said they would rather have an internet connection than a television. This figure compares with 19% of narrowband, dial-up internet users.
Fletcher interviewed more than 200 homes with broadband for the survey, which also revealed that broadband users said they watched "less junk" on television.
Because broadband offers internet access with no call charges, 48% of users said they now leave their PCs switched on all the time.
Broadband offers users access to the internet at 10 times the speed of dial-up internet access.
