BT launches free public internet access

BT has launched a free internet access and email service from its new Multi.phone kiosks.

LONDON (Brand Republic) - BT has launched a free internet access and email service from its new Multi.phone kiosks.

The scheme is part of an extensive e-commerce service that BT is developing to transform the humble phone box into a multimedia kiosk. The unlimited internet access and email service will be free until June 14.

There are almost 600 Multi.phone terminals throughout the UK, in shopping centres, train and tube stations, motorway service areas and airports. They look similar to normal public phone terminals, but they have a 12-inch touch-sensitive screen, designed to help users find their way around the internet and email.

The screen highlights information relevant to the consumer or traveller, such as links to sites giving information on entertainment, shopping, sports and recruitment.

Users can link to email using Hotmail, Talk21 or their own service provider.
