Government spends £30m on broadband

LONDON - The government is to spend £30m to boost the delivery of fast internet services to all parts of the UK.

The investment in broadband, annnounced by e-commerce minister Douglas Alexander, has been introduced to bring benefits to both consumers and businesses.



Regional development agencies and devolved administrations have been asked to put forward schemes to extend broadband networks and usage, to include education and increased availability of the service.



Scotland has been given the biggest slice of funds, with £4.4m. Other areas to do well are Yorkshire and Humberside, which will receive £3.1m, and the South West, which receives £3.8m.
