Commercial property agent Jones Lang LaSalle Hotels has been brought in to market the 550-acre complex, which has hosted the Ryder Cup on four occasions.
The resort includes extensive event facilities, as well as a 324-bedroom hotel, three golf courses, a spa, leisure club, nightclub and the headquarters of the PGA.
Its managing director Nigel Gray said it will be "business as usual" until a buyer is confirmed.
"The Belfry is very much an international brand both for the hotel and conference side of the business as well as the golf operation which is world renowned," he said.
"We are very confident that a sale will be realised and allow The Belfry to continue to develop and grow."
Jones Lang LaSalle Hotels executive vice president George Nicholas said he expects significant interest from international buyers.
"We are already seeing interest being expressed from across the globe, particularly from Asia where investors are seeking to capitalise on the relatively low British pound," he commented.
