New time slot for The Bill gives ITV1 4.5m viewers

LONDON - 'The Bill' drew 4.5m viewers in its new 9pm slot last night, but BBC One's police drama 'New Tricks' took pole position for a second week in a row with a 6.8m viewers.

The second episode of the new series starring Dennis Waterman dominated the 9pm-10pm slot with a 28.7% share.

'The Bill' earned a 19.1% share in its new once per week hour-long post-watershed slot. It previously aired on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8pm-9pm, and managed 4.3m viewers last Thursday.

The second part of 'The Bill -- Live by the Sword' is aired tonight as a double-episode special, but the show will change to weekly from next week.

BBC Two managed 2.3m viewers and a 9.9% share with 9pm-9.30pm comedy panel show 'Mock The Week', dropping to 1.6m 'Never Mind The Buzzcocks'.

Channel 4's documentary 'The World's Oldest Mums' at 9pm-10pm pulled in 2m viewers and an 8.6% share, with another 180,000 viewers catching it on Channel 4+1.

Five scored 1.6m viewers and a 6.5% share for 'The Mentalist' in the same slot.

'Big Brother' pulled in 2m viewers in the 10pm-11pm slot, coming in third behind BBC News with 5.2m and News at Ten with 2.4m.

A further 164,000 tuned in to watch 'Big Brother' on Channel 4+1.
