AOL worldwide membership passes 32m

LONDON - America Online has seen worldwide membership of its flagship ISP service pass the 32m mark, driven by a surge in take-up of the latest version of its service, AOL 7.0.

AOL 7.0, which launched last month, has been downloaded more than 7m times by AOL members, the company said in a statement.

AOL added that its users are spending nearly 70 minutes online daily and have increased their online spending 80% in October against last year to £1.9bn.

AOL has also rolled out its AOL high-speed broadband service to consumers in 18 of Time Warner Cable's largest markets and aims to bring this number to 20 by the year end.

Barry Schluer, chairman and CEO of AOL, said: "We're seeing strong demand in the Time Warner Cable markets where we have rolled out AOL so far this autumn. With our leading broadband partners such as NASCAR, the Cartoon Network, RolingStone.com, CNN and the Weather Channel, we're offering members the best selection of broadband audio and video content available."
