Last week, DMGT announced the merger of its national newspaper arm Associated Newspapers and regional business Northcliffe into a new unit, A&N Media, to be headed up by Associated chief Kevin Beatty.
In addition to Zitter’s Daily Mail managing director role, he will now oversee Associated Newspapers’ digital activities for the Daily Mail and The Mail on Sunday, the Daily Mail’s activity in Ireland, and its publications operation in India.
Zitter has also taken responsibility for the Mail’s digital sales network, an area of the business previously handled by Andy Hart, who recently left his role as chief executive of Associated and Northcliffe’s digital operations.
The changes have been implemented by Beatty, who remains group managing director of Associated Newspapers.
The Mail’s digital activity and its operations in Ireland had previously been handled by outgoing Mail on Sunday managing director Stephen Miron. The changes mean that Miron’s replacement, who is expected to be announced in the coming weeks, could have a diminished role.
The group is now looking for a managing director for its digital operations, who will have responsibility for its pure-play digital business, which includes its jobs, property, motors and dating digital offerings, along with its teletext division.
In a further change, group marketing services director Linda Grant, who some believe is a strong candidate for Miron’s role, will now report to Beatty, having previously reported to Zitter.
A news operations division, A&N Media Services, will consist of areas of the business including facilities, printing and procurement.
