
The Olympic Park Legacy Company (OLPC) told Event it has received four bids from groups wishing to use the stadium when it reopens after the Olympics in 2014. They include West Ham and a joint bid between UEL and Essex County Cricket Club, alongside two unamed bidders.
The OLPC hopes to announce the winning tenant for the stadium before the Games begin in July.
It said in a statement: "We have received four bids from parties interested in using stadium after the Games. The Legacy Company will shortly start its evaluation process with the aim of announcing which concessionaires will occupy the Stadium alongside athletics before the Games."
West Ham was in talks to to buy the stadium but amid fears that legal action by Tottenham Hotspur Football Club could delay legacy plans for the venue.
Karren Brady, vice chairman of West Ham United confirmed the club has submitted a bid to be the stadium’s tenant. She said: "From the outset it has been my firm, unwavering belief that the stadium can truly become a multi-use destination of which east London and the nation as a whole can be proud.
"We have not taken this decision lightly and I should be clear that any move to the stadium is conditional on the fact that it must provide an arena that is fit for world-class football and feels like home to our deserving fans."
A spokesperson from UEL said: "We can confirm that the University of East London and Essex County Cricket Club have put in a joint bid to the Olympic Park Legacy Company to utilise space in the Olympic stadium. We cannot provide any further details at this stage, but we can say that both UEL and Essex County Cricket Club are committed to supporting the best possible outcome for the future of the Olympic Stadium and to delivering an outstanding legacy."
As well as being leased out to a tenant, the stadium will act as the national stadium for athletics and . Its capacity will be reduced from 80,000 to 60,000 people to allow it to act as a multi-purpose venue.
