Weekender: HTC's zombie experience, Vans' 50th birthday and WWF

HTC's virtual zombie experience, Vans' 50th birthday celebrations and WWF's annual Earth Hour are just some of the events taking place this weekend.

HTC will showcase its new Vive virtual reality headset during this immersive one-hour experience, which is being held at a secret location in the capital. Attendees will walk through a virtual world that requires they battle a hoard of zombies to save a small town. Twenty-two actors are due to take part in the production, which will span around half a kilometre.

When: 19 March to 3 April

To celebrate turning 50, the shoe brand is throwing a birthday party at the House of Vans, its multi-purpose skate park venue under Waterloo station. The venue will host live music from the likes of Dizzee Rascal, Annie Mac and Fat White Family on Friday (18 March), meanwhile Saturday (19 March) will see skate and BMX demonstrations at its Family Day. The brand’s skate team will be on hand for signings and there will be games, films and a street market too.

Approximately 1,200 fresh flowers are transforming Oxford Street shopping precinct St Christopher’s Place into a floral oasis this week, thanks to an installation by artist Rebecca Louise Law. On Saturday (18 March) guests can attend a flower pressing masterclass, where they will create their own custom floral phone case.

Bookmaker Coral is unleashing its circus-themed activation all around the Cheltenham Festival, which culminates this Friday (18 March) with the Cheltenham Gold Cup. Racegoers can test their strength on its carnival high striker for a chance to win free bets up to £20 using the company's new app.

WWF's Earth Hour
 
At 8.30pm this Saturday (19 March) buildings all over the UK will switch off for the WWF’s 10th annual lights out event, Earth Hour. In London, multiple venues on the Southbank are taking part. Many are also offering candlelit dinners and themed cocktails during the hour, including the OXO Tower Restaurant and the Skylon lounge.
