Coyner replaces Mark Hunter, who left the company to join Euro RSCG London as executive creative director. Coyner joins Alvaro Sotomayor to complete the senior partnership, together heading up the creative team on Nike.
In his previous role at Fuel Europe in Amsterdam, Coyner created the first global campaign for Volvo. As creative director at TBWA\Chiat\Day, he worked on Fox Sports and created the brand concept "Impossible is Nothing" for Adidas Global. Coyner has also worked on Adidas at 180 Amsterdam and won a Cannes Gold Lion for Umbro when he was working at Goodby Silverstein & Partners in San Francisco.
Coyner originally worked for W&K Amsterdam between 1997 and 2000 as a senior writer on European and global Nike campaigns and Coca-Cola.
Al Moseley, executive creative director at W&K, said: "Boyd has more than proved his sport brand credentials with his award-winning Umbro work, as well as the knockout global Adidas brand platform. We're lucky to have him on board."
Coynor said: "The more I spoke with the people at W&K the more I realised that both they and Nike are going through changes in how they think about telling brand stories. That was enormously attractive to me."
