Consumers will initially receive an SMS inviting them to download the app, created by digital agency Marvellous, from the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes website.
On arrival at the Silverstone racetrack, guests will be able to use a unique QR code to download exclusive team content, and can also access a guide featuring a number of bars and on-site attractions.
Those with the app, designed for the Android platform, will also be photographed with a Vodafone HTC Legend mobile phone in the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes pit lane.
Jon Carney, Marvellous chief executive, said: "The android platform gave us the opportunity to enhance the guest’s user experience, by allowing us to incorporate features such as real-time ticket scanning and checking- in, as well as augmented reality of McLaren’s garage, bringing it to the forefront of leading technology."
