The Vodafone McLaren Mercedes driver will be used to encourage more men to use the Procter & Gamble brand, which is the UK's number one selling shampoo.
Traditionally, McLaren had not allowed its drivers to seek deals outside its own pool of sponsors, which in addition to Vodafone includes Hilton, Hugo Boss, Santander and Tag Heuer.
However as the marketability of drivers has increased such deals have been allowed in recent years.
James Nunn, head&shoulders brand communications manager, said: "Head & Shoulders is the number one selling shampoo in the UK so it seemed natural to team up with Jenson as he is a style icon that the everyday man on the street can relate to. British men aspire to him as he has a natural, relaxed approach to grooming which is exactly what head&shoulders is all about."
A spokesman for the hair-care brand said that it was not in the position to announce marketing plans with regards to Button being used as brand ambassador.
In the 12 months to October 2009, Head & Shoulders witnessed a 2% increase in sales to £47.3m.
