VOD service usage climbed to an average 62m views per month, up from 55m per month in the early part of this year.

The number of new TV customers, however, was just 20,400 during the second quarter, compared to 30,600 in the previous three months, ended 31 March.

During the quarter, Virgin Media's total revenue fell to £936m, down slightly from £940m in the same quarter of 2008.

The business made an operating profit of £15m, up from a loss of £328m in 2008.
