
Virgin Media TV channels including Living, FX, MTV and National Geographic will be available in HD, with the first channel launching at the end of July.
All four channels will be available to Virgin Media's 3.6 million TV customers as part of their XL subscription.
The new channels will offer HD content including programmes such as Grey's Anatomy, Dexter and Generation Kill. Live music events will be able to broadcast in Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound.
Programmes on the Living channel will be available to viewers in HD for the first time. Its content includes Criminal Minds, Ghost Whisperer, Private Practice and CSI.
Virgin Media is currently in talks with UKTV about Good Food HD. The company already offers the BBC HD channel and around 300 hours of HD content on its on demand TV platform, including BBC iPlayer in HD. Around 60 HD films are currently available on Virgin Media TV subscriptions.
