LONDON - National tourism agency VisitBritain and Virgin Atlantic Airways have joined forces to launch a campaign aimed at North Americans.

VisitBritain links with Virgin Atlantic to target US tourists

The activity will focus around the tagline ‘Get More Britain For Your Buck’ and will promote travelling to Britain throughout 2009.

The campaign is worth £660,000 and launches this week. Americans spend £2.2bn annually on trips to Britain. Visits have fallen 11.5% during the last five years due largely to the falling dollar and the global economic climate.

Online advertising on Expedia.com, Hotels.com and Frommers.com will direct tourists to a new website and encourage visitors to book flights through Virgin Atlantic Airways.

Americans can also enter a competition to win a trip for two to London with flights and behind the scenes tours of Westminster Palace, the House of Commons and the House of Lords.
