Virgin 1 signs PC World as drama sponsor

LONDON - Virgin 1 has secured PC World as sponsor of its post-watershed drama slot, which will feature US hit 'The Riches', for three months.

The deal was struck by Virgin Media Television's advertising sales house IDS and PC World's media agency Walker Media.

'The Riches', a 13-part US import which stars Eddie Izzard and Minnie Driver as husband and wife con artists, is expected to be one of the most popular shows on the channel, which launches on Freeview, Virgin Media and Sky Digital on Monday.

The sponsorship also covers two other dramas, 'Criminal Minds' and 'The Unit'.

PC World sought the sponsorship in order to boost awareness of its brand in the run-up to the Christmas and New Year sales period.

Benjamin Kaye, head of advertising at PC World, said: "As soon as we saw the content and look and feel of Virgin 1, we knew it would help hit a key demographic. Its massive reach across cable, satellite and Freeview means our brand will be broadcast into 20m homes."

James Wildman, managing director of IDS, said: "PC World is a massive advertiser and great brand to have on board Virgin 1."
