The comedy drama, which stars British actors Eddie Izzard and Minnie Driver, was acquired from Twentieth Century Fox. The 13-part series will spearhead Virgin 1's primetime drama schedule this autumn.
The series has been described as a twist on 'The Beverly Hillbillies', with Izzard and Driver playing a husband and wife team of Irish-American con-artists in the Deep South, who, along with their daughter and sons, go on the run after stealing money from the extended family bank.
After a car collision with another family, the family assume fake identities and pursue a better life as law-abiding citizens.
The deal was negotiated between Celia Taylor, director of programming for Virgin 1, and Steve Cornish, senior vice-president and managing director at Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution.
Taylor said: "We fought off intense competition from other UK networks to bring 'The Riches' to Virgin 1 - delivering on our commitment to bringing fresh British commissions and the best US acquisitions to our audience.
"With a superb cast and the amazing chemistry between Eddie and Minnie, 'The Riches' will definitely keep our viewers captivated from the first episode right to the end."
