Video: Old Speckled Hen fan plays Beethoven's Ode to Joy on bottle and pint orchestra

LONDON - Brewer Greene King, after reviewing a home video from professional musician Jonathan Vincent playing Beethoven's Ode to Joy on bottled and pints of Old Speckled Hen, paid for the film to be recorded professionally in a London pub.

The Old Speckled Hen fan initially recorded the performance in his garden shed, using 36 bottles and 24 pints of cask beer with various amounts of the ale in each designed to create a pitch perfect sound.

The brewer has posted the footage on YouTube.

Vincent, a classically-trained percussionist and pianist and a music lecturer the University of Kent, said: ‘The arrangement takes some liberties with Beethoven's theme, but I think this gives it my own special take. The creation and tuning of the ‘instrument' was particularly enjoyable, mainly because it involved drinking the excess beer with friends.'

Old Speckled Hen is celebrating its 30th anniversary and claims to be the UK's number one premium ale.
