The Very Big Catwalk event will take place on 4 July in front of the city’s historic Three Graces buildings. More than 2,500 people have already signed up to take part, with the City Council aiming to attract more than 3,083 people to break the record set by Mexico City.

Confirmed participants from the local area include The Chinese Pagoda Centre, The City of Liverpool College, representatives from Girlguiding UK and the Empire Street Dance Company.

The catwalk will also host a number of different fashion categories, including Here Comes the Bride, Vintage Best in Show and Tats and Beards.

TV and live event fashion producer Jane Galpin will help coordinate the show, while event production company Lindsey Hunt will direct and choreograph the event.

Once the record attempt is over, Very.co.uk will host The Very Big After Party, a celebratory disco on the docks hosted by DJ Greg Wilson.

The Transatlantic 175 campaign involves a weekend of celebrations designed to mark Liverpool’s 175th anniversary of its links across the pond. It forms part of the seven-week One Magnificent City programme of events celebrating Liverpool’s internationally renowned maritime history and transatlantic connections.

Wayne Hemmingway has curated the event. He said: "When Jane [Galpin] and I started discussing the concept for the catwalk, I wanted it to be a celebration of Liverpool and its diverse communities. Regardless of age, sex or background – I want people to be proud to strut their stuff and let the world see what an amazing melting pot of cultures Liverpool is.

"Looking at all the different groups and individuals taking part is massively exciting and without a doubt 4 July is going to be a spectacle not to be missed."
