During the Games, USA House will play host to its sponsors, donors and athletes. The venue will not be open to the public during the Games but it is expected up to 1,000 people a day will pass through the centre during the Olympics.

"We are thrilled to have the Royal College of Art serve as USA House for the London Games," said Patrick Sandusky, chief communications officer for the US Olympic Committee. "The Royal College of Art is one of London’s signature locations and, in addition to the great space it offers, it provides for easy access to Olympic venues and hotels."

Paul Thompson, rector of the Royal College of Art, said the venue is "honoured" to have been selected as the host venue the US Olympic team.

"The Royal College of Art has many links with the Games, from creating artworks from recycled hoarding from the Olympic site in 2008 along with podia and costumes designed by our students for more than 700 victory ceremonies. The London 2012 Olympic torch and cauldron were both designed by RCA alumni."

The Royal College of Art is celebrating its 175th anniversary this year.
