Emap's heavy rock title Kerrang! put clear water between it and IPC's NME in the weekly magazine stakes, rising 5.3% to 80,186, capping an impressive 24.2% year-on-year rise.
In comparison, NME, edited by Conor McNicholas, fell 3.4% to 74,206, and is down marginally year on year, by 0.8%.
In the mid-market, Future's Classic Rock is the most significant improver, climbing 12% to 56,037, with sister title Metal Hammer, making a modest gain of 3% to 45,359.
Word Magazine, Development Hell's foray into the music sector, recorded a modest 1.1% improvement to 35,142, but has made a healthy increase on its year-on-year figure, which is up 5.3%. The publisher's dance title Mixmag, which was bought from Emap in November last year, was down 1.1% to 41,757, but has shed 10.1% of its circulation year on year.
In the film sector, Emap's Empire slid 7.7% to 175,656, but remains the market-leading title despite falling 14.7% year on year.
Future's rival title Total Film recorded a marginal improvement, rising 0.4% to 91,000, although, like Empire, it has lost a significant number of its readers over the last 12 months, with its year-on-year circulation falling 9.6%.
