Between 2-8pm, Uber users in London and Manchester were able to request a special car to come and collect surplus food from their home or office and donate it to charities including Fare Share and homeless shelter Whitechapel Mission.
In return, the #UberGiving ‘elves’ dropped off chocolate treats to donors, thanks to a partnership with confectionary brand Lindt. The event was activated in-house.
Sarah Slater, marketing manager at Uber, told Event: "We were truly humbled by London's generosity yesterday. We received thousands of requests and collected donations from hundreds of people - both at work and at home."
She added that due to high demand, the service will be extended for one more day, with donations being taken from 11am-4pm today (19 December).
