The #UberKittens service requires participants to download the taxi service’s smartphone app before requesting the ‘kittens’ option between 12pm and 4pm local time. Then if the small creatures are available, they will be brought to the office or home of the user so that they can enjoy 15 minutes with the cuddly creatures.
The service, priced at $40 (£20), will also help consumers raise funds for animal shelter across Australia, including Animal Welfare League Queensland in Brisbane and the Gold Coast, Lort Smith Adoption Centre in the Geelong and Melbourne regions, Cat Haven in Perth and Sydney’s Cat Protection Society. Participants will also receive a gift bag.
In a blog post on Uber’s website, the brand said: "Following the huge success of UberKittens in the US, we were inundated with requests from customers and some amazing local shelters to bring it to our shores so we could share the kitten love and spread the word about the importance of finding much-needed homes for our furry friends."
Uber is encouraging consumers to share their experiences on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter through the dedicated hashtag.
