TV ad recruits Avon Ladies amid economic gloom

LONDON - Avon is launching a new TV ad campaign to recruit new representatives, often known as 'Avon Ladies', as housewives are seeking ways of boosting family income during the downturn.

The 122-year-old cosmetics company claims that there has been a 15% increase in new recruits across the direct selling industry in the last three months and that thousands of people in the UK signed up in the run up to Christmas.

Last month Avon announced that actress Courteney Cox had become the brand ambassador for its new women's fragrance Spotlight. She will appear in TV and print ads from April.  Other stars that have represented the brand include Reese Witherspoon, Gemma Arteton, Jennifer Hudson and Patrick Dempsey.
