Trinity Mirror looks to free market for Liverpool Daily Post

LONDON - A third of all copies of the Liverpool Daily Post are to be given away to city centre workers, as the trend among regional newspaper publishers to turn to free distribution marches on.

Daily Post publisher Trinity Mirror is to circulate around 6,000 copies of the 17,000 circulation title for free in the central business district of Liverpool at key office, blocks as well as handing it out to passersby.

The move is seen as vital in targeting the professional ABC1 market in the city centre, as well as raising the title's profile through its increased presence.

Other regional titles to turn to free distribution include the Manchester Evening News, which earlier this year began giving away around 50,000 copies in the city centre.

In Brighton, Newsquest's daily title The Argus launched Argus Lite in February to target the increasing number of commuters travelling to London.

And in London, competition among free titles was significantly ramped up this year with the launch of Associated Newspaper's London Lite and News International's thelondonpaper.
