Johnston reshuffles regional bosses

Johnston Press has reshuffled its line-up of managing directors in the North West region, prompted by the departure of Philip Welsh from the regional daily Blackpool Gazette.

His replacement is Darren Russell, formerly managing director of Lancashire Publications, a branch of Johnston based in Wigan that includes the Leigh Reporter & Golborne Star, St Helens Reporter, Wigan Observer and Wigan Reporter.

Russell is due to be replaced by Elizabeth Edmondson, managing director of Lancaster & Morecambe Newspapers, a Johnston group that includes the Lakeland Echo, Lancaster Guardian and The Visitor.

Both Russell and Edmondson will continue to report to Margaret Hilton, divisional managing director, Northwest.

Staff who previously reported to Elizabeth Edmondson will now report to the respective heads of department within their disciplines at the Lancashire Evening Post.

Finally, Guy Phillips, who was managing director of the Offroad Portfolio has left to go and work for Wilfred Edmunds Ltd, a further branch of Johnston which publishes the Derbishire Times. Staff who previously reported to Guy Phillips will now report directly to Margaret Hilton.
