News International marketer Nicole Refson heads stateside while Asda hires Jon Owen as marketing director in Brand Republic's weekly round-up of people moves in advertising, marketing and media.

Advertising

Rapp has made a number of hires, including Iain Noakes as planning director, and Steve Furminger in the new role of chief technical officer. Noakes takes the agency's most senior data planning role, replacing Simon James, who left to join Sapient. Strategic planning is overseen by Gavin Hilton, who has been given the new role of director of customer experience. Rapp has also appointed Harper Collins group marketing director Shiona McDougall as a strategy director. (±±¾©Èü³µpk10)

Publicis' UK marketing director Nerida Mudie has left the agency after more than two years in the role. Mudie, a 2007 ±±¾©Èü³µpk10 Face to Watch and former new business director at Grey London, is believed to have left for personal reasons. (±±¾©Èü³µpk10)

WCRS has hired Simon Schmitt, the creative director of Sid Lee and the man behind Adidas' "house party" campaigns, as a senior creative. Schmitt will join the agency later this month, and work across a range of clients, including Sky, News International and Weetabix. (±±¾©Èü³µpk10)

TBWA\London's deputy executive creative director, Al Young, is leaving the agency after three years. He is not thought to have a job to go to and will not be directly replaced. (±±¾©Èü³µpk10)

Marketing

Mark Sinnock, marketing director at Asda, has left the supermarket chain. He is being replaced by Jon Owen, the current director of marketing strategy. Sinnock joined Asda from ad agency Fallon over a year ago and has since been responsible for UK customer marketing. ()

British Gas is restructuring its senior management team to give greater influence to brand marketing across the organisation. Commercial director Chris Jansen has been promoted to the new role of managing director for British Gas Services. Marketing director Rick Vlemmiks takes Jansen's previous role, while former WCRS chief executive Will Orr joins as communications director. ()

MySpace international marketing director Lindsay Nuttall has left the social networking site after a year in the role. The former head of marketing for BBC2, BBC Four and the corporation's factual programmes joined the ailing social networking site in April 2009, with a brief to improve its fortunes in all non-US markets, including the UK. ()

Telegraph Media Group has promoted loyalty director Graham Horner to the role of marketing director. Horner will take responsibility for brand campaigns and sales promotions, in addition to his existing responsibility for TMG's newly launched loyalty programmes. ()

Media

Comcast, the US cable operator, has appointed former Fox International executive Nigel Ponder to the new role of executive director of advertising sales across EMEA. Ponder will be responsible for commercial revenues from international and pan-regional advertisers, and through local sales operations. ()

Nicole Refson, the former marketing director at the defunct thelondonpaper, has left parent company News International to live in New York. Refson switched to the senior marketing role of brand activation manager, working across The Times and The Sunday Times, following the closure of thelondonpaper in September last year. ()

Richard Malton, the former marketing director of JCDecaux Airport, has been appointed to the new position of marketing director of outdoor media owner Ocean Outdoor. In his new role, Malton will focus on enhancing Ocean Outdoor's sales strategy. ()

Havas Media's Media Contacts has appointed Paul Vassallo as head of digital trading and head of display, replacing Dave Katz who has left the agency to set up his own digital trading consultancy. He will report to head of trading Alan Brydon. (±±¾©Èü³µpk10)
