ITV's Rupert Howell's and Rapier's John Townshend were the highest profile departures this week, as Brand Republic rounds up the moves in advertising, digital, marketing and media.

McCann London has made two senior hires to bolster the agency's offering across its client portfolio. Paul Cohen joins as creative partner from AMV BBDO, while Olivia Johnson becomes planning partner from Hooper Galton. (±±¾©Èü³µpk10)

Beta has appointed Toby Kay, a former product development director at News International, as its first head of digital. Kay joins the agency next month, and will work closely with Phil Cockrell and Graham Storey, Beta's new creative directors. (±±¾©Èü³µpk10)

John Townshend, the creative partner of Rapier, has quit to launch his own agency start-up. Townshend, who has worked at Rapier for more than 15 years, will officially open the doors of the new venture in the autumn. (±±¾©Èü³µpk10)

Integrated marketing agency 23red has poached CHI & Partners business director Tom Huxtable and made him managing director. 23red, which has created the new post of MD, has briefed Huxtable to expand its portfolio of public and private clients. (±±¾©Èü³µpk10)

Marketing

Cadbury has appointed internal candidate Margaret Jobling, head of marketing for its Dairy Milk brand, as its interim marketing director, replacing Phil Rumbol. Jobling is taking up the role after Rumbol, the architect of Cadbury's iconic ads, announced his departure last month. ()

Bacardi has appointed Silvia Lagnado, a former Unilever marketer, as chief marketing officer of Bacardi Limited and President of Bacardi Global Brands. Lagnado will start at the drinks company in September having worked at Unilever for 24 years. ()

Confused.com has hired Directgov marketer Mike Hoban to be its first chief marketing officer. Hoban, who joined the government information portal in January 2009, is to join Confused.com on 1 July. ()

Media

Rupert Howell, the managing director of brand and commercial at ITV, is leaving the company. Howell, who joined ITV in October 2007, is stepping down as a result of changes proposed in an ongoing strategy review at ITV instigated by chairman Archie Norman and chief executive Adam Crozier. IASH, the online sales house trade body, has elected Jemm Media founder Matt Whaley as its new chair. Whaley will replace Richard Sharp, UK managing director of VC media, who has chaired IASH for 18 months. ()

Initiative has appointed Tristan Bentall as response director in charge of its direct offering. He will work across client business, including supermarket Tesco and restaurant chains Burger King and TGI Fridays, and will report to Chris Wright, head of broadcast at Initiative.
