Times launches web TV series and microsite for wine lovers

LONDON - Times Online has launched a web TV series and microsite called Wine & Dine, to increase the membership of its Sunday Times Wine Club.

Wine & Dine, published in association with The Sunday Times Wine Club, will aim to educate site visitors in choosing and matching wine with appropriate foods.

The web TV series will follow two dinner parties, each in three episodes, and will be presented by wine writer and presenter Peter Richards. Each episode will cover a dinner course and wine, from starters to puddings and cheese courses.

The first episode introduces the guests, gives an overview of the featured wines and selected menus. The second focuses on the wines and recipes for starter and main courses, and the third covers dessert wines and cheeses.

Visitors to the microsite will be able to order cases of the wines featured in each dinner party, and can find related menu recipes.

The site includes information for wine drinkers about grape varieties and vintage wines, as well as in-depth wine guides. It also includes an interactive "virtual sommelier", which recommends wines based on answers to a series of questions such as price range, type and flavour of food and preferred tastes.

The microsite will run regular promotions and competitions, including the chance to win dinner for two and a night at Raymond Blanc's Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons, a Wine Cooler worth £800 from Divertimenti, and a wine tasting evening for the winner and 20 friends at their home.

Zach Leonard, digital media publisher at Times Media, said: "While many people enjoy drinking wine, they may not know much about it; and although it is a fascinating subject, it can be daunting.

"Wine & Dine in association with The Sunday Times Wine Club breaks down the barriers traditionally associated with wine, and gives users sensible, practical advice about wine to help them make more informed wine choices and to broaden their wine pallet."

Wine & Dine is part of a broader marketing campaign for The Sunday Times Wine Club, which includes online advertising, a direct mail campaign and a festive entertainment supplement within The Sunday Times on November 18.
