Elliott joined Time Out London, which has a weekly circulation of 87,000, in January. The company's chairman and founder Tony Elliott has indicated a significant overhaul of the 40-year-old business will take place over the next 12 months, which now includes 25 licensed international editions.

Prior to joining the publisher (Mark) Elliott held various publishing roles at Emap, including publisher of Empire and consultant on Heat and Closer. He has also worked with Channel 4 and the Brooklands Group, running TV-branded magazines and websites.

Elliott, chairman of Time Out, said he has been impressed by the professionalism of his namesake and his knowledge of magazine publishing, adding "he is the best person to take the magazine forward with its future plans".

Time Out's website attracts 1.75 million unique users a month and 2008 has seen further print editions in Sydney, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur and Bangalore.

In his new role, (Mark) Elliott will be one of seven board members, including a non-executive board member from Credit Suisse.
