Frith to help Time Out as editor departs

LONDON - Mark Frith, the former editor of Heat, is to act as a consultant for Time Out, which is looking for a new editor following the departure of Gordon Thomson.

Thomson leaves the magazine after four years and with a steadily sinking circulation. Its ABC for the six months to December was 67,377, down from 76,356 last time.

Thomson who had been editor of Time Out London since October 2004 was previously deputy editor of the Observer Sport Monthly.

Frith is on board to help Time Out find a new editor and will work closely with former Emap colleague Mark Elliott -- managing director of Time Out London.

The consultant role for Frith marks his return to magazine publishing after a year-long hiatus in which he published his book, 'The Celeb Diaries: The Sensational Inside Story Of The Celebrity Decade', which is a Sunday Times Bestseller.

Last year, Time Out had considered moving its listings to the web and giving the magazine away for free. The radical distribution model was one of the options being mooted by the Time Out chairman and founder, Tony Elliott.
